Allison Pokras has served as the executive director of Operation Understanding since the fall of 2008. Ms. Pokras brings 20 years experience in education, non-profit and corporate atmospheres.
Prior to joining OU, Ms. Pokras directed educational, arts and cultural initiatives for Boston-based organizations the New Center for Arts and Culture and Facing History and Ourselves. Through all of her work, Ms. Pokras aims to encourage personal and communal responsibility and healthy civic engagement as a means to foster inter-communal coexistence.
Ms. Pokras serves on the steering committee of the Idea Coalition and is a founding member of the Black/Jewish Women's Dialogue Group. Ms. Pokras received a M.A. from Brandeis University focusing intercommunal engagement and did her undergraduate study at Old Dominion University.
