Each year a group of African American and Jewish high school juniors from throughout the City of Philadelphia are selected to participate in Operation Understanding. Students are selected based on demonstrated leadership ability, communication skills, and the ability to work with others to promote understanding.
Every effort is made to select a diverse group of participants who represent a variety of neighborhoods and come from all economic backgrounds.
The program is free to all participants, ability to pay is not a factor in the selection process. Instead, students 'give back' to Operation Understanding and the community by offering workshops and community programs throughout their senior year of high school that address issues of multi-culturalism and coalition building.
Applications and all supporting materials are due January 11th.
